Ain O Shalish Kendra
Background of Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK)
Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK), founded in 1986, is a national legal aid and human rights organisation. Initially, its work was limited to providing free legal services to the disempowered peoples of the society, particularly women, working children and workers in Dhaka City. However, over the last thirty three years, ASK has undertaken a more comprehensive approach to the promotion and protection of human rights and prevention in the area of violation of legal and human rights. ASK’s goal is to create a society based on equality, social and gender justice and rule of law. It seeks to create an environment for accountability and transparency of government institutions. ASK was registered with the Registrar of Joint Stock Companies, Bangladesh under the Societies Registration Act, XXI of 1860 in 1986, and with the NGO Affairs Bureau under Foreign Donation Regulation Ordinance, 1978 in 1993. It was accorded special consultative status with UNECOSOC in 1998.
